Understanding the different threads that constitute the memory of a country is a skillful practice that requires people to look beyond the surface. This tiny perspective, almost microscopic, allows people to see the tangle of constituent threads of a memory or the history of a country, reaching some contexts, spaces and voices/speeches that were first ignored in the composition process of building many current discourses. The interaction between literature and history is a meaningful guideline to the practice of textual writings that privilege the plurality’s insertion, the discourses from others, and the experiences and memories intertwined over time. This practice constitutes a vital possibility to review the historical past of a country. Based on this perspective, this paper aims to analyze the historical novel Torto Arado (2019), written by Itamar Vieira Junior, in order to understand the relationship between fiction and history present in the novel and its effects on meanings.
