Call for Papers - Volume 16 - Number 45 - June 2026 / Tribute to Prof Dr Dino Fioravante Preti
It is with great honour and deep admiration that we pay tribute to Professor Dino Fioravante Preti, whose academic and human trajectory is an unavoidable reference for language studies in Brazil. A master in the art of articulating theory and practice, science and sensitivity, Professor Preti dedicated his life to teaching, research and training generations of linguists, educators and intellectuals committed to social transformation through language.
With a degree in Languages, a Master's and a PhD from the University of São Paulo, Professor Preti has built a solid career marked by scientific rigour and intellectual generosity. His name is inextricably linked to studies of Discourse Analysis, Applied Linguistics and, especially, spoken language, a field in which he was a pioneer in valuing orality as a legitimate object of linguistic investigation and as a social practice of great relevance.
Author of fundamental works and supervisor of countless undergraduate, master's and doctoral projects, Professor Dino Preti has always cultivated dialogue, attentive listening and respect for the multiple forms of human expression. His work transcended the walls of the university, reaching into basic education, teacher training and the ethical commitment to a fairer and more inclusive society.
In addition to his intellectual legacy, the memory of his simplicity, his elegance in his dealings and his contagious enthusiasm for words and life remains alive among us. His presence was - and continues to be - an inspiration to all those who believe in the transformative power of discourse.
Professor Dino Fioravante Preti, our gratitude is immeasurable. Your legacy will remain a beacon for future generations. This tribute is just a symbolic gesture in the face of the greatness of your contribution to science, education and humanity.
