Abstract

This article seeks to reflect the regional and historical aspects addressed by the Mexican writer, Juan Rulfo, in his short stories, “Luvina” and “Nos han dado la tierra” published in 1953, which include the work “El Llano en llamas”. The characters that make up the tales represent the characteristics and traditions of their cities, they describe where they came from and ask themselves where they will go? They report social and geographic problems. The author presents short stories, which portray the Mexican Revolution of 1910 and the Agrarian Reform and in the face of these conflicts, the protagonists weave their anxieties and desires in relation to life and the region they live in. Rulfo's literature, in the middle of the 20th century, reveals a new perspective, seeking to give visibility to regional qualities, rural people and local knowledge, which will be analyzed based on the anthropologist Geertz (1989/1997) and the theorists, Moreira (2010) and Katz (2002).
