VARIAÇÃO PRAGMÁTICA: CORTESIA LINGUÍSTICA E INTERCOMPREENSÃO CULTURAL ENTRE BRASILEIROS E PORTUGUESES

Abstract

A pesquisa sociolinguística obteve importantes avanços nos últimos cinquenta anos. Muitas diferenças entre a língua vernacular brasileira e o de Portugal já estão descritas. Embora já seja consensual que o português falado no Brasil (PB) tem regras fonológicas, morfológicas, morfossintáticas, sintáticas e prosódicas distintas das presentes na gramática do português falado em Portugal (PE), a ponto de, em certos momentos , não haver inteligibilidade entre brasileiros e portugueses, pouco já foi investigado sobre as regras pragmáticas que distinguem o PB do PE. Este artigo se propõe como um levantamento inicial, impressionístico, descritivo, de pontos que merecem e precisam ser pesquisados mais a fundo com metodologia variacionista, na intenção de inspirar trabalhos mais profundos sobre o tema, que venham a preencher o vácuo existente na literatura atual. Defendemos que muitos dos mal-entendidos entre falantes de PB e de PE não pode ser atribuído a diferenças nas regras sintáticas, morfológicas ou pelo léxico, mas é um produto de duas pragmáticas diferentes. Ainda que portugueses e brasileiros possam compreender as palavras e frases que ouvem na estrutura em que foram construídas, essas palavras remetem mutuamente a atitudes pragmáticas diferentes. Para uma boa compreensão intercultural, não basta compartilhar regras sintáticas e léxico: faz-se necessário dominar o vínculo pragmático entre cada sentença e a situação de mundo em que ela é empregada naquela sociedade.

ABSTRACT: Researches in Sociolinguistic field made important advances in the past fifty years. Sociolinguistics have already found and described many distinctions between the Brazilian vernacular language and that of Portugal. Although linguists nowadays converge about the idea that Brazilian Portuguese (BP) has many phonological, morphological, morphosyntactic, syntactic and prosodic rules so different from the ones found in the European Portuguese (EP) grammar, to a point that can compromise the intelligibility between Brazilians and Portuguese people, very little research was done in variation on the pragmatic field. This article is intended as an initial, general, descriptive survey of points that deserve and need to be further investigated within a variationist methodology. We hope to inspire future works on the theme, which will fill the existing gap in the current literature. We argue that a number of the misunderstandings between PB and PE speakers cannot be attributed to differences in syntactic, morphological or lexical rules, but is rather a product of two distinct pragmatics. Despite the fact that Portuguese and Brazilians may perfectly understand the words and phrases they hear from each other, arguably capturing their structure, these words will refer mutually to different pragmatic attitudes. When the goal is to reach a good level of intercultural understanding, sharing syntactic and lexical rules will not be enough. It will be also necessary to master the pragmatic links between each sentence and the world situation of employment in both societies.
