Abstract

This comparative study between the texts "Poema das Árvores" by António Gedeão and "Árvore" by Manoel de Barros, from the perspective of Ecocriticism, examines the relationship between nature and poetry, and culture, exploring vegetal subjectivity and the dissolution of anthropocentric boundaries. Trees are seen as symbols of silent resistance and wisdom, connecting to theoretical ideas from Donna Haraway (2016), Ailton Krenak (2020), Cheryll Glotfelty (1996), Antonio Candido (1989) on the Chthulucene, cosmopoetics, Ecocriticism, and the right to literature and storytelling, revealing a profound interconnection between humans, poetry, nature, and spirituality, in dialogue with other poets, writers, and theorists, alongside the artistic photographs of Xavi Bou.

Author Biographies

  • Magno da Guarda Almeida, Universidade Federal de Alagoas

    Ph.D. candidate and Master in Literary Studies at the Graduate Program in Linguistics and Literature at the Federal University of Alagoas (PPGLL/UFAL), funded by FAPEAL. Holds a Bachelor's degree in Portuguese Language and its Literatures from the Federal University of Alagoas. Collaborated with the Institutional Scientific Initiation Scholarship Program (PIBIC/CNPq) from 2011 to 2012 and served as a Research Fellow in Scientific Initiation (PIBIC/CNPq) from 2012 to 2013. A poet and Literature professor in Maceió's private education network, he develops work in the areas of Literature Teaching, literary analysis and criticism, project creation focused on literature, reading, writing, and Cultural Production. He is a member of the following research groups: Poéticas Interartes (FALE - UFAL), Crítica Polifônica (UFAL - UNB), and Filomove: Filosofia, Artes e Estéticas da América Latina (ICHLA - FALE - UFAL). He has published the poetry books: Pelos Poros e Pequenos Apelos (Imprensa Oficial Graciliano Ramos, 2015) and Composição para Além-Vértebras (Imprensa Oficial Graciliano Ramos, 2016), both awarded through the PICL – Literary Culture Incentive Program, offered by the same publisher in partnership with the Government of the State of Alagoas. Additionally, he published Simultâneos Pulsando: Uma Antologia Fescenina da Poesia Brasileira Contemporânea (Corsário-Satã, SP, 2018), QUEBRA: Poesia Negro Contemporânea MCZ (Phyllos Academy, 2021), and Casa Corpo Animal (forthcoming).

     

  • Gustavo Félix Bezerra, Universidade Federal de Alagoas

    Member of the Artistic Association Cia do Chapéu (Maceió, AL), where he develops and researches collective projects in the field of performing arts. He holds a degree in English Language and Literature from the Federal University of Alagoas (UFAL), with research focused on literary criticism, canon formation, and the aesthetics of the sublime. Currently, he is a master's student in Literary Studies at the same institution, researching the poetics of Hayao Miyazaki.
