Abstract

Russia's invasion of Ukraine represents a landmark crisis in the global human rights protection system, exposing structural weaknesses and challenges in accountability for violations and in welcoming vulnerable populations. Given this scenario, this study aims to analyze the impacts of the Russian invasion of Ukraine on the effectiveness of the global system for the protection of Human Rights, identifying its limitations. Furthermore, it investigates the effects of the conflict on international cooperation and assesses the consequences for refugees and internally displaced people. The research adopts a bibliographic review methodology, based on the analysis of international treaties, United Nations resolutions, books and academic articles. The study revealed that the war worsened the humanitarian crisis and weakened global governance mechanisms, demonstrating difficulties in imposing effective sanctions and ensuring accountability for violations. Likewise, the conflict has weakened international cooperation and demonstrated the need for substantial reforms to strengthen the protection of Human Rights in prolonged crises. It is concluded that the war in Ukraine increased the difficulties in protecting vulnerable populations, highlighting the importance of the process of improving global governance strategies to deal with contemporary armed conflicts.
