História e performatividade em Days Without End de Sebastian Barry

Resumo

Este artigo analisará o romance Days Without End (2016) do premiado escritor irlandês Sebastian Barry, considerando a relação intrínseca entre personagem e linguagem que se estabelece na obra. Tendo por pressuposto teórico o conceito de performatividade textual (BERNS, 2009), considera-se que os processos de fluidez de gênero do narrador-personagem, Thomas McNulty, também pode ser aplicados para a análise da forma narrativa. Neste sentido, linguagem e forma narrativa em Days Without End emulam a aquisição linguística na Irlanda, aparecendo textualmente dentro do romance através do Hiberno-English e da oralidade da narração.

Biografia do Autor

Victor Augusto da Cruz Pacheco, Universidade de São Paulo

Victor Augusto da Cruz Pacheco é bacharel em Letras (habilitação Português e Espanhol) pela Universidade de São Paulo e aluno de mestrado na área de Estudos Linguísticos e Literários em Inglês com bolsa CAPES pela mesma instituição. Cursou disciplinas na Universidad de Buenos Aires, Argentina, durante o período de intercâmbio acadêmico (2016). Tem como área de estudos a literatura irlandesa desde 2012 com a pesquisa As representações da Irlanda revolucionária nos contos de Sean OFaolain (2014) financiada pela Bolsa de Iniciação Científica da Reitoria da Universidade de São Paulo (Bolsa RUSP).
